The World Heritage Committee,
- Having examined Document WHC-08/32.COM/7B,
- Recalling Decision 31 COM 7B.25, adopted at its 31st session (Christchurch, 2007),
- Notes with concern, that the State Party has not rejected plans to construct a gas pipeline which, if it were to pass through the property, would constitute a threat to its outstanding universal value and integrity and would represent a clear case for inscription of the property on the List of World Heritage in Danger;
- Reiterates its requests to the State Party to develop, in consultation with the World Heritage Centre and the Advisory Bodies, a draft Statement of Outstanding Universal Value including the conditions of integrity, for examination by the World Heritage Committee at its 33rd session in 2009;
- Requests the State Party to provide full details of the feasibility study for the gas pipeline project including results of the Environmental Impact Assessment (considering both environmental and social/cultural impacts) to the World Heritage Centre, in accordance with paragraph 172 of the Operational Guidelines;
- Also requests the State Party to fully consider and effectively implement the recommendations of the 2007 World Heritage Centre / IUCN mission to strengthen the protection and management of the property;
- Further requests the State Party to submit to the World Heritage Centre, by 1 February 2009, a report on the state of conservation of the property and on progress in the implementation of the recommendations of the 2007 mission for examination by the World Heritage Committee at its 33rd session in 2009.
