On December 2−4, the 4th All-Russian Congress on Environment Protection was held in Moscow

The Congress attended by more than 3,000 delegates from throughout Russia was an event terminating the Year of Environment Protection. All activities at the Congress were organized in the form of 20 roundtable discussions devoted to the most important aspects of nature conservation. According to the results of these discussions, a Resolution of 4th All-Russian Congress on Environment Protection has been adopted to include recommendations and instructions to the RF Government, relevant ministries, as well as executive government bodies of constituent entities within the Russian Federation.

Alexey Butorin, President of the Natural Heritage Protection Fund, participated in activities of the section ‘Conservation of biological and landscape diversity’ and presented a report titled "Role of World Heritage Convention in conservation of biological and landscape diversity". The report gives an analysis of how the Russian Federation meets the Convention requirements and proposes an action plan intended to improve implementation of the Convention and preserve and support specific World Heritage properties. A number of proposals have been included in the final resolution of the Congress.
