Meeting on management plan for the Ubsunur Hollow Reserve

Within the frames of the "Biodiversity Conservation in Altai-Sayan Region" UNDP/GEF project on May, 23-24 in Kysyl took place the adjusting meeting for working up management plan for the Ubsunur Hollow Reserve, the Russian part of the International World Heritage site of the same name. A. Butorin, the President of the Natural Heritage Protection Fund, takes part as the UNDP/GEF consultant.

Over 50 persons took part in the meeting. Having discussed the current state, management problems and development perspectives of the Ubsunur Hollow Reserve, the participants have outlined the most important measures within 6 priority activity directions of the Reserve in 2008-2012. Before October, 2007 the researchers of the Reserve and the invited specialists will work up action plan for the five-year period and the detailed operative management plan for 2008. Regional level agreement of the management plan and organization of outer expertise is designed for November. The final document is to be agreed before end of 2007.

The Ubsunur Hollow Reserve management plan is being worked up taking into consideration the specific status of the World Heritage site, and in future it can serve a model for planning activity of the Russian Protected Areas inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
