Within the framework of the preparation for the nomination "Ilmensky Mountains" the field work in Ilmensky Reserve took place

In August 14-21 the group of specialists of the Institute of Geography of RAS, Institute for Cultural and Natural Heritage and the Natural Heritage Protection Fund worked in Ilmensky Reserve.

Jointly with the Reserve staff all the necessary documents for dossier nomination prepared, the key sections of the nomination discussed, further joint action brought into line. The nomination dossier "Ilmensky Mountains" will be drafted before the end of 2009 and it's putting in the UNESCO World Heritage Center target on September 2011 after the nominations "Lena Pillars" and "Magadansky Reserve".

The "Ilmensky Mountains" nomination (territory within the borders of the Ilmensky State Reserve named after V. Lenin of Ural Department of RAS) included in the Russian Tentative list in August 11, 2008. The preparation of the nomination was initiated by Reserve and supported by Ural Department of RAS, by the administration of the Chelyabinsk Region, by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Reserve territory is of interest as a unique mineralogical site and claim for the inclusion in the World Heritage List under criterion viii.
