Lena Pillars Nature Park has become the tenth Russian site inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List

Today, Lena Pillars Nature Park (Russian Federation) was inscribed on the World Heritage List during the morning session of the World Heritage Committee (the 36th session of the Committee, St. Petersburg, Russia). Lena Pillars Nature Park is the tenth property of the Russian Federation that has been given a high status of UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lena Pillars Nature Park has been inscribed on the World Heritage List in accordance with the natural criterion viii, - "Outstanding geological (Lower- and Middle-Cambrian deposits) and paleontological (abundant and unique fossils and entire communities, including the first reef in the history of the Earth) values are combined with the unique geomorphological phenomena (permafrost karst, thermokarst, and sand dunes (tukulans)".

The nomination was being prepared during 2005–2011 by the experts of Lena Pillars Nature Park, the Institute of Geology of Diamonds and Noble Metals (Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences), Institute of Geography (Russian Academy of Sciences), Institute of Paleontology of the RAS, International Academy for Nature Conservation, Isle of Vilm (Germany). The overall coordination of the work was performed by the Natural Heritage Protection Fund.
