"Landscapes of Dauria" the transnational Russian-Mongolian nomination, was submitted to UNESCO World Heritage Centre

Today, the nomination file "Landscapes of Dauria" was submitted to UNESCO World Heritage Centre for consideration at the 38th session of World Heritage Committee in June-July 2014. The nomination was prepared in 2012 by Russian and Mongolian experts supported by the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety of Germany. The coordinator of the project was the Natural Heritage Protection Fund.

In February, the nomination file will be checked for completeness, and in the case of a positive result, in summer and fall, 2013, IUCN experts will visit the territory for assessment.

International workshop “Sustainable development of transboundary areas within the Altai region” took place in Urumqi (PRC), and was aimed to discuss the prospects for transnational extension of the Russian World Heritage Property “The Golden Mountains of Altai”

International workshop “Sustainable development of transboundary areas within the Altai region” took place in Urumqi (Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region) on the 28 and 29th of November 2012, organized by the Science and Technology agency of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Urumqi, PRC together with Altai state technical university, Barnaul. The representative of the Natural Heritage Protection Fund presented the report on the prospects of transnational extension of the nomination “The Golden Mountains of Altai”.

The presentation of the World Heritage Site “Lena Pillars Nature Park” and the distribution of awards between the authors took place within the framework of National days of The Sakha (Yakutia) Republic in Moscow

On the 23rd of November people gathered on the territory of Gostyny Dvor to see the colorful presentation of tourist potential of RS(Y) “Yakutia – diamond on the map of Russia” and UNESCO World Heritage Site “Lena Pillars Nature Park”. The RS(Y) Nature Park “Lena Pillars” was included into the World Heritage List on the 2nd of July, 2012, and became the 10th Natural Property of the Russian Federation with such a high status. 

During the presentation RS(Y) badges of merit “Civil Valour” were given to the following authors of the nominations: Y. Rozanov, Academician, A. Juravlev d.b.s., P.Parhaev d.b.s., E. Trofimova c.g.s., and A. Butorin, project coordinator.

Fieldworks in the “Mongol Daguur” SPA took place within the framework of preparatory activities for transnational nomination “Landscapes of Dauria”

The third working group meeting on the preparation of the nomination took place during the period from 3 to 8 of September 2012, as well as the fieldworks within the Mongolian territory, in the Nature Reserve “Mongol Daguur” and its buffer zone.

The abovementioned field works resulted in allocation of the main areas of an Outstanding Universal Value, evaluation of current territory state of conservation, determination of the nomination’s boundaries and its buffer zone. Photo- and video materials were collected and saved. Prepared documents forming the nomination file were discussed and the detailed plan for further working group activities was executed. 

During the meeting the participants agreed to complete the works on the nomination before the end of November, 2012, to make the final revision of the collected materials in December at the field site of the International Academy for Nature Conservation on Vilm Island, and to submit the nomination file to the World Heritage Centre before February, 1, 2013.
