International Conference “Golden Mountains of Altai –Our Common Heritage” has been closed in Ulaanbaatar

Between 3−5 July, the international conference was held in the capital of Mongolia that focused on the issues of establishing Golden Mountains of Altai as the serial transnational natural and cultural World Heritage property. Delegations from Peoples Republic of China, Republic of Kazakhstan, Mongolia and the Russian Federation agreed to proceed together towards an extension of the current property. Under the same name the future property will include additional components located in China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia and become a mixed transnational serial property.

Results of the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee

The 37th session of the World Heritage Committee (16–27 June) came to an end. A total of 19 new properties have been inscribed on the List — 5 natural and 14 cultural.
The World Heritage List now numbers 981 in 160 States Parties to the World Heritage Convention. Fiji and Qatar had their first sites inscribed during the present session. The List numbers 759 cultural, 193 natural and 29 mixed properties.

Tajik National Park (Pamir Mountains) has been inscribed on the List by the World Heritage Committee

Today, the fifth day of the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee was marked by the inscription of Tajik National Park (Pamir Mountains) on the List, which is the first natural property in the Republic of Tajikistan. The outstanding universal value of Tajik National Park was recognized by the Committee in terms of such criteria as vii (superlative natural phenomena and exceptional aesthetic importance) and viii (significant geomorphic or physiographic features).

Decisions on Russian natural properties have been adopted at the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee in Phnom Penh

Today, the evening meeting of the World Heritage Committee held within the framework of its 37th session in Phnom Penh followed up with adoption of decisions on the state of conservation related to five Russian natural properties.

Sub-Regional Meeting on the Nomination of the Western Tien-Shan as a World Heritage property

Sub-Regional Meeting on the nomination of the Western Tien-Shan as a serial transnational World Heritage property attended by specialists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan was held with the support of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre on May, 23-24 in Bishkek.

Transnational Russian and Mongolian nomination “Landscapes of Dauria” was determined to be incomplete

According to the procedure rules, "Landscapes of Dauria” nomination submitted to the World Heritage Centre on January 31, 2013, has been technically reviewed for its completeness during February. As a result of the expert evaluation the nomination was determined to be incomplete under two reasons as follows.

The meeting of the Russian National Committee for World Cultural and Natural Heritage was held in the State Historical Museum

The List of Committee members has been approved and the Committee program for 2013–2014 has been discussed at the meeting. The most topical issues associated with preservation of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage in the Russian Federation and abroad have been discussed. The Committee members, V. Neronov (Vice-chairperson of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO “The Man and the Biosphere”) and A. Butorin (President of the Natural Heritage Protection Fund) have reported on the implementation of the natural section of the Convention.

A press conference devoted to prospects to nominate the Permsky Krai natural objects for the World Heritage status was held in Perm

Participants of the discussion have uniformly concluded about the necessity to make further work for inscription besides Kungurskaya and Ordynskaya caves (related works have been performed since 2008), also the brightest displays of the Permian karst plateau which joints a whole set of objects being unique under its natural value on the UNESCO World Heritage List. A resonant “Permian period’s park” working title of the future nomination was offered.
